Weird (and fun) Fitness Trends

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

A regular exercise routine can get boring, not only mentally but physically as well. After doing repetitive exercises, your muscles start responding less. When the body is not stressed, the physiological response lessons, both in strength and aerobic capacity. The only way to abate this conundrum is to add variety to your exercise routine at least every three to four months. From fusion fitness classes like Koga to high intensity interval training, there are dozens of ways to add some spice to your exercise routine. Here are some of my favorites.

  1. Aerial Yoga: With the fun of a soft trapeze, Aerial Yoga combines basic yoga postures with the miracles of gravity. http://www.yoga-abode.com/node/392
  2. Yogaeira is a fusion of yoga, capoeira and Thai bodywork. http://www.ambercampion.com/yogaeira-dynamic-release-method/
  3. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a cardiorespiratory training technique that alternates brief speed and recovery intervals to increase the overall intensity of your workout. http://www.acefitness.org/acefit/fitness-fact-article/3317/high-intensity-interval-training/
  4. Hulas: The hula hoop isn’t just for kids anymore. Those looking to shed some pounds and trim that tummy are turning to the old school toy for a workout like no other. http://pix11.com/2014/07/23/the-new-fitness-craze-hula-hoop-your-gut-to-a-six-pack/
  5. Koga is much more than stretching and kicking, it fuses Kickboxing and Yoga together in a unique package Koga taps into your inner being, connecting your body with your mind. http://www.trykoga.com/what-is-koga.html
  6. Personalized Online Training Programs: Instead of being left to your own devices to try to lose weight, gain muscle and generally feel better, there are myriad online resources to consult in order to shape your workout. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/05/20/10-online-workout-programs/
  7. Tabata training is a High Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T) workout that lasts four minutes. http://www.active.com/fitness/Articles/What-is-Tabata-Training
